Voices Amplified is ecstatic to announce our first full scale production of The Prom: The Musical. To kick off Pride Month, we open and run June 1st-4th at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center in Lexington, Kentucky! Casting is open to artists ages 16 and older.

 

Rehearsals

There will be some rehearsals (but very limited) in the weeks leading up to the 5 days a week rehearsal process starting May 9th. Tech week begins May 29th. Performances are June 1st-4th. Some actors will be required to rehearse and perform at Voices Amplifide's inaugural fundraiser Tonight Belongs to You on February 11, 2023.

The Audition Process

  • We are seeking Actors ages 16 and up.

  • This is a non-union production.

 

Stipend

Actors 18 and older will receive a stipend. 

 

Casting

Voices Amplified is committed to diversity and inclusion in our casting practices and is committed to relationship building. We strongly encourage actors of all gender expressions, races, ethnicities, national origins, body types, and abilities to audition.

 

ROUND 1 - VIDEO SUBMISSIONS

Actors interested in auditioning should email vanessa@voicesamplified.net and ellie@voicesamplified.net for specific instructions on how to submit your video audition and form.

Video Submissions must be submitted by Monday, January 9TH.

**Optional - 60-90 second monologue

   (We recommend a monologue if you would like to be considered for a principal role.)

ROUND 2 - CALLBACKS

Saturday, January 21, 2023 (location and time TBA)

CALLBACKS will consist of:

  • dance audition

  • cold readings

  • specific songs from the show

 

Available Roles

Character Descriptions (according to the script)

Emma Nolan: Teenager in Indiana. A reluctant poster child for LGBT youth. Very smart. A bit of a tomboy quality. 

(can play Senior in high school) 

Alyssa Green: A cheerleader and top student. Secretly Emma's girlfriend. Faces constant pressure from her mother and friends. (can play Senior in high school)

Shelby, Kaylee, Nick, Kevin: Students at the school who bully (but eventually learn to accept) Emma. 

(can play Seniors in high school)

Mr. Hawkinson: The straight-laced school principal. An ally to Emma and a long time fan of Dee Dee. 

(can play 30s-50s) 

Mrs. Greene: Alyssa's intimidating, conservative, but ultimately loving mother. The head of the PTA 

(can play 30s-50s)

Trent Oliver: Pretentious Juilliard graduate recently cast in the non- Equity tour of Godspell. Loves to hear himself speak. (can play late 20’s-40s) 

Angie Dickenson: A member in the Broadway production of Chicago. Jaded Fossie girl with a heart of gold 

(can play 30s-50s) 

Sheldon: A charismatic press agent. (can play 30 and up) 

Ensemble Roles: 6-10 various ages will play students, reporters, high school students, parents etc and possibly understudies. 

 

PLEASE NOTE

The Roles of Barry Glickman and Dee Dee Allen have been cast. Announcements coming soon!

Barry Glickman: Flamboyant Broadway star. Completely politically incorrect and doesn’t know it. Longs to give Emma the prom he was unable to have as a teen.

Dee Dee Allen: Broadway diva. A huge ego to match her huge talent. Hilariously self-involved, but yearns to do something good for someone other than herself.
